New GeoRSS Support Posted over 4 years ago by nazar

I am pleased to announce that all our RSS feeds pertaining to photos now support the GeoRSS format.

Three additional specific GeoRSS feeds were also added to the FotoMap, Collections and Profiles pages.

What is GeoRss?!?

GeoRSS is similar to an RSS feed but contains geographic information. Most Importantly, RSS feeds with GeoRSS information are indexed by Google and are shown in Google Map searches.

For example, this photo of Weston’s Grand pier contains Google Map information (scroll to the bottom of the page). Due to this, it is displayed in our FotoMap section and is also presented as a GeoRSS feed. Google reads this feed and indexes that particular photo against Weston Grand Pier. In future, any searches in Google Maps for Weston Grand Pier would show my markers and picture.

What Bother?

Google Maps is becoming increasingly popular. It is an excellent mechanism to enable Google to index your photos geographically.

How do I add Markers against my photos?

Simply edit your photo and scroll down to the bottom of the page until you see a small map of Europe. Double click on the map to zoom in. Zoom into the geographic area of where the photo was taken. Once you get close enough, click on the spot on the map to obtain the correct longitude and latitude then hit the add button.

Where can I view my markers?

Any photo with a marker will be listed in our PhotoMap section, against your personal profile (which will display all your markers…. this is also searched by Google) and against any Collection which contains marked photos.
